• Chapter 218 : Underground conspiracy

The violent tremors on the surface traveled through the earth, causing clouds of dust to rain before our eyes.

Above us, Emilia and her students were engaged in mortal combat with the dragons right now.

And I, Misha, and Sasha were right below them, in an unnaturally formed cavern beneath the ground.

I turned my Magic Eyes to that one spot and spoke lightly.

“Well? Don’t you think it’s time you show yourselves now? I do command you for increasing the effectiveness of your concealment magic by using the dragon domain and the darkness of the earth. However…” (Anos)

With the <Growth Kurst> spell, I grew back to my sixteen year old self, walked slowly and extended my arm into the space in front of me.

I clenched my hand and felt something.

“—My Magic Eyes have grown used to this trick now.” (Anos)

I lifted the thing in my hand and slammed it on the ground with all my might.

The magic concealing it was lifted with a loud sound.

The man who appeared in front of me was clad in a robe with white armor on top of it. It was almost the same as the one Gazel the Saint used to wear. So he had to be a draconid.

“Hmm. So you’re the ones who’ve been lurking underground and interfering with Emilia’s <Dragon Binding Barrier De Jerias>, aren’t you? Were you the ones who unleashed the dragons too?” (Anos)

“<Possession Summon Azept> <Dragon Force Deiro>!” The draconid shouted, still collapsed on the ground.

His body lit up, and his magical power spiked.

“By the will of the Almighty Radiance Equis!”

A high-pitched dragon cry escaped from the draconid’s mouth.

I let go of his hand and stomped on his face as hard as I could.

“Gahaah…!!” (Draconid A)

“I see, a possession summon, huh. I do seem to remember that some dragon species are good at hiding and blending in with their surroundings. So you harbor the power of one of those dragons in your body.” (Anos)

The draconid quickly drew his sword and slashed at my body with the strength of a dragon.

I put even more strength into my leg and pressed even harder, causing his head to sink deeper into the ground.

“Guh…!” (Draconid A)

“Answer me. What were you trying to pull, and who sent you?”

“We are warriors of the sublime God! You may take our lives, but we won’t tell you anything!” (Draconid A)

As soon as the draconid spoke these words, a black thread that appeared from the magic circle I had drawn wrapped around his neck, and an ominous collar was placed around it.

“Then pray all you want. We’ll see how long that faith of yours will last.” (Anos)

<Shackle Collar of Dream and Reality Nedneliaz>.

This spell showed him a dream of a godless world where I killed him over and over again.

No matter how much he prayed and wished for God to appear, that didn’t change a thing. He just kept getting killed and perishing.

He suffered all sorts of pain, and died tens of thousands of times every second.

Eventually, he awoke from his dream.

The draconid looks at me with an exhausted expression.

“Do you want to keep praying?” (Anos)

“Agh… Ugh…” (Draconid A)

“The pain will stop if you start talking.” (Anos)

With a vacant look and his lips trembling, the draconid spoke.

“…We are… the Holy Knights of Jiordal… Cardinal Ahid has imparted a divine message to us… An order to consecrate the people of Gailadite…” (Draconid A)

Just as I thought, this was the work of that man.

“Where is Ahid?” (Anos)

“…Everastanzetta…” (Draconid A)

“And what do you mean by consecrate?”

“To send them to God from the womb of the divine messengers, the dragons, and to have them resurrected in a holy form. They will become draconids like us, holy people who serve the gods.” (Draconid A)

In other words, they were going to feed the humans to the dragons.

“Filthy invaders.” (Anos)

I stomped my foot and crushed the draconid’s skull.

I nonchalantly cast a glance at those who were still hiding and watching us.

“I won’t allow you to sow your seeds of conflict on the surface. I’ll give you three seconds. Call off your army now. If you don’t, I will destroy your gods and all of Jiordal.” (Anos)

There was a moment of silence.

The next moment, the draconids who had been hiding and blending in with the ground via camouflage suddenly appeared.

They all wore robes with pure white armor over them.

“<Possession Summon Azept> <Dragon Force Deiro>!” (Draconids)

As they shouted, their magic power increased.

They had probably summoned other dragons for battle and to possess themselves.

“Gairadite will become a nation of god. As the oracle foretold!” (Draconid B)

One of them shouted, and all of them followed suit.

“As the Almighty Radiance wishes!” (Draconids)

“All the people of Gailadite shall receive God’s salvation!” (Draconid B)

“Trust in God and accept salvation!” (Draconids)

The draconid soldiers opened their mouths wide.

Then, they spewed out their fiery breaths, just like dragons.

The flames followed our field of vision, but disappeared in a flash the next moment.

Sasha, who was standing next to me, had stared at them with her Magic Eyes of Destruction.

“Before putting your faith in God, you should face reality with your own eyes.” (Anos)

I took a step forward.

Misha glared at the draconids with her Magic Eyes of Creation.

One after another, they transformed into snowflakes.

“D-Don’t falter…! Have faith in our god!Charge…!” (Draconid B)

“Are you all blind? Can’t you see the feelings of those above us who finally found a place to belong and are fighting desperately right now? They never asked for salvation. They never begged for help. They are facing reality with their own eyes, and fighting against injustice with their own hands.” (Anos)

Black lightning gathered around me.

I was casting the origin spell <Magic Black Thunder Emperor Jirasd>.

“Agh…! Gyaaaaahhhhhhh…!” (Draconid B)

“Impossible…! How can his spell be powerful enough to break through a dragon’s defense…?!” (Draconid C)

“How can he possess such power without even summoning a god— GAAAAAHHHHH!!!” (Draconid D)

Jet-black lightning bolts crackled and swelled, shooting through the draconids around us and turning them into charcoal.

“What kind of god would break the will of those who are just about to save themselves? Is that what you fools call salvation? No one can save them. They must earn their own salvation. And they know that better than anyone.” (Anos)
