I'm at chpt 375 and I'm wondering if the mc ever starts being a decent person or does he keep getting forced to abandon any morals he has?

This is an absolute masterpiece. The worldbuilding is great, and it captures the internal conflicts in people perfectly, and not just in the mc, but in side characters as well. This novel explores the concept of ”absolute power coreupts absolutely” in a wonderful way. 10/10

Man I still remember the days when this was in top 5. Ahh those were good old days. Reading daily chaps, cursing b*st*rd shang, and pitting alex were the days

No romance. Only power and betraying others for power.

there are a lot of novels that do justice to the "turning from evil into good" type of plot but not a lot for "turning from good into evil", but lucky for you.. this novel does exactly that, pretty well too..

The title should be changed to: A Journey to Nowhere. a disconnected, time-skipping, bloody, hate-filled, journey to...well, you know. If you love to hate the MC, then you'll love this...otherwise, pass.

Been almost 2 years since I read this and to this day shang remains one of the best written novel characters of all time. This dude was written so phenomenally he had the readers spiralling into depression and madness with him🙏🏾😭 straight up peak character writing. If Shang ends up being a villain in a future book of this author he may end up having the greatest origin story I ever seen.

Hes a one dimensional power hungry swordsman

I don't know what you've been reading but that's the most atrocious take I've seen on shang. He is power hungry, and his character is definitrly not everybody cup of tea. But one dimensional? you're trolling. The author literally walked us through his development step by step even a blind man could look at it and see the depths of his writing. He went from a troubled kid with a broken view of the world and a burning passion for strength to somebody who held his friends dear to his heart to a mad power hungry heartless demon. Sh*t was peak character writing

That's my issue. He went from a character with a lot of depth to a one dimensional power hungry swordsman by the end of the novel. What was the point? The author makes it clear that Alex, and Shang aren't the same. Alex has substance, Shang doesn't, and Shang is who I'm talking about.

If you're asking what the point was you need to read it again bro. The dude was literally broken. Did you not see how his whole existence was toyed with by the god? he went mad and that's perfectly reasonable. Also shang and Alex were not different people that was just shang being disgusted with his own weakness and deciding to get rid of it altogether by separating. And Alex being Wracked with guilt and deciding to blame shang for everything without wanting any blame himself. they even mention that in the end when alex is going through therapy and he is told not to talk like him and shang weren't one person

"They are not different people" "They separated and became independant" is essentially what you said. Is that not the same as being different people?

Let me correct myself. They weren't different people until shang decided to separate them. And even after they separated, they're just two sides of the same coin.

Ay, big ups to you man.😼 Will make sure to use that feedback on my next unassuming target, whoever that may be. If I were to continue though, I'd just take your comment out of context again, swap the wording around and cut out the second half. 👿

" Readers spiralling into depression and madness with him " IS SO TRUE. especially during last 300ish chapters man I was so invested and looked so depressed not only cuz it's about to end but shang's action and his passion for power those times also I just wanted to study for 24 hrs straight due how focused shang was on getting powerful ( which kinda gave me motivation) but I was too addicted to this lmf**

this novel truly is incredible, it manages to give us a glimmer of hope every time and make us invested in it only for that glimmer of hope to absolutely crushed, this book drags the readers along with it to the endless void of depression
