Summary

With a father as strong as the highest heavens themselves, Gravis wasn't required to step into the cold and ruthless world of cultivation.

But when Heaven used him in a scheme to get back at his father, Gravis realized that he needed strength to gain true freedom.

As long as he remained his weak self, he would always remain beneath Heaven’s oppression. Only true power brings true freedom.

To gain strength, Gravis ventured into the lower worlds to start his cultivation under true life and death tempering.

Only a strong will, which had been forged in striving for every resource available, would allow him to reach the peak.

Heaven’s strongest weapon was Lightning of Divine Punishment, and only if he made this weapon his, would he have a chance.

So, to overthrow Heaven,

Lightning Is the Only Way!

Yet, the path to power is painful.

Not everyone reaches the peak.

But Gravis will!

No matter how much pain he feels along the way!

I read 528 chapters and I'm quiting. The novel is well written and has a really good depiction of the path to immortality but I really can't stand the MC anymore. His cultivation logic is extremely forced as you can probably tell from the title. I can summarize his mentality to if you cross his path to immortality then he'll murder your *ss even if you are his best friend. So if you are looking for an easy read then I probably won't recommend this for you as this will stress you out.

It would be a terrible choice to drop this if you're reading Warmaisach's other novels. . Just saying.

light spoilers on your thoughts if you're interested: . . . . . . Lightning is a lot less relevant later on, laws are the main focus on his character though... it becomes worse, he's obsessed with freedom and in his mind freedom is doing whatever the f*ck he wants without thinking even slightly of the consequences that it will bring for his loved ones, he also considers receiving external help as "restraining his will" and goes on a rant every time. I can't talk more about this last part because its a heavy spoiler

Definitely one of my favourites, I was sceptical reading this since I read Sword God, wasn’t sure if this would be up to expectations but it was definitely the best decision I made. I honestly enjoyed it more than Sword God, they are both peak but this had more of an edge for me. I’d definitely recommend this if you’re seeing this comment, give it shot and read💯

The best cultivation novel to ever exist, it fuses perfectly, progress and cultivation, instead of taking thousands of chapters for minor things, he can actually make stable and explosive progress without everything seeming stupid

Anybody give a good synopsis? it'd suck to waste my time, I've seen this novel plenty of times.

This is a story about Gravis, he was born from the Strongest Man in the Universe who's only equal is the Highest Heaven. Heaven uses him as a pawn and this severely p*ss*s him off, Gravis then decides to pave his own way and become as strong as his Father to kill Heaven, which makes him go down to the lowest world to start his journey. However, luck is controlled by Heaven, and as the enemy of it, Gravis doesn't have the luxury of it meaning he regularly goes through horrible things, and only being able to depend on himself. The best things about this entire novel is the progress, realism and fact that everything isn't just black and white. Just because Gravis decided at the start that "I will destroy Heaven and Fate" like every other Emo Cultivation Protag, that doesn't mean he's necessarily right or that everything he does will work out or help others, instead he can lose, even to Heaven. I feel this novel is more about growth as a person than anything else

Choosing lightning became the reason for the downfall and victory of Gravis. It wasn't the f*ck*ng way.
