Summary

Lin Jie, a transmigrator, is the owner of a bookstore in another world.

He’s kind and warm-hearted, often recommending healing books to customers who are going through a tough time. From time to time, he secretly promotes his own work too.

Over time, these customers begin to respect him greatly, some even frequently bringing local specialties to repay his favor. They often seek his professional opinion when it comes to selecting books, and share their experiences with this ordinary bookstore owner to people around them.

They respectfully and intimately refer to him using names such as the “Demon God’s Lackey”, “Propagator of the Flesh and Blood Gospel”, “ ‘Corpse Devouring Sect’s Rites and Customs’ Author” and “Shepherd of the Stars”.

Been eyeing this book for sometime as it looked interesting. Looking at the comments it looks like I won't be disappointed. Let's give it a go!

My favorite part of the misunderstandings in this novel so far is how believable it is for each character to feel that way. MC knows that he's cold reading, and probably getting things wrong, he doesn't know about magic. He builds relationships, knowing he is manipulating people into buying books. Each of his customers thinks he's just a normal guy, that doesn't know they are powerful at first. Then he hands them a book (he was just casually reading) that can kill a person if they can't handle it wrong. Then they see how many books he has. Then the rationalizations start. Because there is NO WAY a normal guy can handle this many eldritch tomes. It's that back and forth of fortune telling nonsense vs actual magic that makes this so enjoyable to read for me. I can't wait for the moment he becomes strong enough to figure out what's really going on.

If you are okay with a different genre then try reading “I Was Mistaken as a Monstrous Genius Actor”. I am actually reading it rn too and all I can say is this novel is built upon the misunderstandings that happened to the mc😆

It was a good for starting chapters but after that it got too repetitive

I have read that novel (I was mistaken as a monstruous actor) but sadly, what started good didn't stay good for long. Trash of the Count does the trope better. And My House of Horrors is also a very good one with a similar trope.

This isn't a review but a question - which chapter of the web novel would chapter 149 (newest chapter) from the manhua translate to?

manhua ch149 is at novel ch155, though the manhua has events happening in different places than in the novel, so you may see things twice or not at all, depending on what they are

Unbelievable. This is one of the best things I've read in years. Subjectively 10/10. A good combination of a serious plot, well-thought-out characters, good humor, and lots of blood and gruesome details. I love this kind of stuff. The whole story from beginning to end sank right into my heart. I think I will read it again after some time.

I've read this first through the Manhua, last year I think with 80 something chapters, then proceeded to read the novel as I can't wait to see what comes next. However I stop reading around chapter 150+ after seeing that it's still not complete. Now I continued to read it last week and finally able to finished it today. Honestly I feel like the ending was a bit rushed? There were many things that I was looking forward. But overall it was good journey with Boss Lin, I will miss you, my heart feels a little heavy right now cause this really stirred my heart similar to what happened to Klien, hay. 10/10- I'm not stingy when it comes to good novels such as this, even though the ending was not my liking, it was still within my expectations and it end well for me. Good luck to my next journey. 😆✋

this is one of my most favorite novels of all time. I have been reading this since late 2021. the manhua is also amazing. it is the perfect blend between Comedy and seriousness. this is the fourth time I'll be rereading this.

Just read it. The satisfaction isn't something that can be contained in mere letters.
