Summary

Lan Chang’an has gone through two lifetimes of reincarnations, and in the third life, he aimed for stability until reaching the Nascent Soul Realm in hopes of unraveling the mysteries of the Nine Seal Stele. Consequently, he cultivated the Ancient Trees Evergreen Technique, which wielded modest power in return for greater lifespan.

His approach is not one of fearlessly engaging in battles, but of navigating with steady precision and forging meaningful bonds with others.

Throughout his long cultivation journey, he encountered individuals at various stages of their cultivation, including a Decent Faction Head, a Prodigious Beauty, a Giant Demon Lord, an Evil Cultivator, a Thousand-Year Old Demon, and a Puppet Master Pulling Strings From Behind The Scene.

Observing the ebb and flow of the world, witnessing its ups and downs, he unknowingly became a living fossil in the realm of cultivation, akin to an evergreen tree spanning through eternity.

In the world of mortals, the flow of life is steady, shrouded in the illusion of longevity, yet decisions are made decisively, with a clear sense of morality.

My thoughts after reading 56 chapters so far, I think its an alright story with a low-key patient main character without the cringy stuff that happen in other low quality xianxia. If you had given me this to read ten years ago when I was new to the genre I would've asked for more. However, I don't feel tension, the goals are so generic (establishing foundation, core formation blabla), no big or smart antagonists. No big final villain we're supposed to deal with, no mysteries in the plot or about the world, we just get told we're in this kingdom and each time MC move we learn about a new city or whatever. It lacks the depth and suspense that I enjoyed in My Longevity Simulation, the MC is just too laid back for my taste and so far nothing is getting him out of this comfort zone. I will pause my reading here and if I feel bored might continue some other time.

Nah youre f*ck*ng crazy, you genuinely say this is subpar longevity simulation? That sh*t is barerly possible to read and u say this is worse? XD im on phone so i dont even have energy to write how its better in everyway. The charm of this novel is that its simply a "normal" person trying to survive n live his best live in a near hostile world. Which is beautifully written with characters n interactions n ideas of our MC. Meanwhile longevity simulator or w.e its called has one of worst i ever saw power system n scaling, comphrehension out of nowhere and OP just because, the guy literaly compherended killing intent of heaven n earth in few first chapters, wow so great, no anticipation nothing. U just know the MC is basicly gonna be OP and win everytime. Nah w.e i cba to write more. Youre just L

[About high_on_catnips point] I don't think it's wrong to call him a hypocritical righteous cultivator and I think he actually fully deserves it: - just take for example Xie Wenye, he just used her, binding her by heart oath demon and left her in such miserable state knowing through what hardships she will have to go, after what he did. But, did he care? No, he always thinks about his benefits, prioritize his benefits over everything. - Mu Mingye, fairy Ni Ye, his maid servant, Xun Ping Incense Master, Zhou girl everything that he does is for his own benefits, he doesn't care about others or their hardships, he might help lightly sometimes, but it's just because it doesn't affect him and he doesn't loose something valuable. I am not saying that it's actually bad, no, it actually quite refreshing to read such manipulative, benefit driven character that appears as righteous and carry himself such, but actually is well hidden old monster that only cares about his benefits mostly

I didn't disagree tho, you aren't wrong to call him that but I was saying he's a good guy overall. Calling him a hypocrite for prioritizing his goals over others is a shallow read of a complex character. Yes, he puts his goals first—he’s driven, he knows that some things just need to be done, but that doesn’t negate his kindness or sense of gratitude. Repaying old favors even when it’s convenient doesn’t make it meaningless, it just shows his true character. True, many of the good deeds he does don’t come at his personal cost, but why should they have to? The value of a good act isn’t determined by how much it hurts the one doing it. His kindness is genuine, not performative martyrdom. His good deeds don't have to affect him nor do they need to cost him something valuable. Just because helping someone doesn’t derail his goals doesn’t mean it lacks meaning; it just means he’s smart enough to do good without self-sabotage. It shows balance, not hypocrisy.

What a good guy indeed. I mean only a good guy would ever save some young and naive girl and pretend that saving her cost him significantly so that he could manipulate her into promising to give him her virginity and when she grew up and understood what he did and refused, he again manipulated her into agreeing. He is such a righteous and good man for taking advantage of this woman and abandoning her. That must be why the author made her fall in love with him immediately afterwards.

(About RedCockroach's 3rd point) - RedCockroach is absolutely right about this, he's indeed one of those righteous cultivator described by FY, he says one thing and does the other. He's indeed a hypocritical righteous cultivator but again, calling him just a hypocritical righteous cultivator is pretty vague and insulting to his overall character. He's a genuinely good natured kind-hearted man with a gentle disposition but a ruthless and cruel edge. He actually isn't a cold monster, he does genuinely good deeds when he can and often goes out of his way to repay old favours. Am I glazing my chad china man? Yes, I am but those who've read the novel know that it isn't exaggerated at all, it's all truthful statement. Imo the MC is a pretty flawless character with little to no cracks on his characterization, he's never done anything that feels off character. A genuinely likable and admirable character. There's definitely a bias cuz I like this novel but I feel like it deserves it.

A typical cultivation world, but shown from a perspective of someone who blooms later, getting stronger slowly with time and calculative mindset. Great read that you will enjoy, if you like slow progression, but it has it's own flaws too: - MC is shown too omnipotent, without any major setbacks, so if you like novels where mc goes through hardships and learns through his mistakes, it's likely not what you are looking for. - Fan service that ruins story a bit, he is shown as someone detached from worldly desires, but constantly has intimacy with female characters saying that it's their choice, so he's also a bit hypocrite. - MC behavior is perfectly explained by Fang Yang from RI, where he says about hypocrite righteous cultivators, where they does one thing, but say another to their benefit. I hope it will help to decide, read it or not.

      - I wouldn't say he's too omnipotent but rather competent and cunning, while it is true that he doesn't really face any major setbacks but rather than plot armour—it is it majorly because he's concealed himself too deeply, no major forces and factions are constantly tryna f*ck with him to give him any major setbacks. - The only gripe I have with this story is that there is fan service, it does sour my tastes a bit but the good thing is that there is no s*x scenes, and whenever the s*x happens, it's a time skip and a paragraph implying that they did it, how they did it, and how they felt. But it does happen pretty often, that said, I absolutely wouldn't say he's a hypocrite, he's stated pretty early and multiple times that he's more than willing to tap it as long as there are benefits or no consequences. He's indeed pretty detached since he's never blinded by lust or beauty, never grows attached to anyone and absolutely never wastes his time chasing worldly desires. World limit hit

I get the fact that he wants to be an immortal and so worldly things like emotions and all is the last thing on his mind but what does he think will happen when he achieves his goals and everybody he ever cared for are already dead?
