Summary

Growing up with eccentric materialist parents who left him in the care of his grandfather for a job overseas, Zhang Heng had learned to adapt and be unfettered by the oddities and challenges in life. But he would soon learn the baffling truth about the world he thought he knew when one day at midnight time froze and he found himself in a world so quiet and still it was deafening. That night, he discovered that he had 24 hours more than everybody else and thus, marked the beginning of his adventures. The mysteries surrounding his newfound ability only deepened when a strange old man claimed to have given Zhang Heng that ‘gift of time’ and recruited the young man to participate in a cryptic ‘life-changing’ game on his behalf. Little did Zhang Heng know that accepting those terms meant embroiling himself in many versions of reality and exposing himself to the hidden secrets of the world—a decision he could never undo.

I read about 100 chapters. A great story but too many sad endings. It was too much for a emotionally sensitive guy like me. Especially after what happened with simone. I really can't take it anymore.

Read till chap 39, Tokyo drift IX. You will understand. Still if you can take some emotional damage I suggest you read it. It has really good concept and storyline.

For me, this novel was mind bogglingly difficult to finish. I've got the suspicion that there was more than one writer involved. Tastes are different and for me some parts were really enjoyable to read, but others were absolutely not, especially those overusing the female plot devices, again and again... The novel title should include 'girls, girls and even more girls'. If that's your thing you'll probably find reading this novel enjoyable. I couldn't care less other than getting ever more annoyed by it to the extreme. I do enjoy reading about female characters, but what's happening here is more than just too much. The actual story was very interesting and good enough to not drop reading and I wish the author(s) had concentrated on that strength. That would've really helped me making this an enjoyable read throughout, but unfortunately it wasn't to be. I feel this novel is a good example how to bring down a otherwise perfectly great story with a lot potential. Hope that helps.

Hello, ChrisW. You’re actually right, you’re amazingly perspective. The author ripped of a tv show for the pirate arc, I don’t remember which nor how many times the author did this. Since I didn’t read past that arc. But I’m allegedly assuming that the author did this for every arc. Perhaps not the first one, but for every arc after that. I hope someday someone makes a list of the arcs and where the author originally “allegedly” stole them from.

Right, there is that. For me it wasn't the main issue though, and while it's hard to create original content these days, here it was pretty much copying familiar stories and scenarios for what's been popular the last 20 years or so for writing all of the tales (scenario arcs), which kinda makes sense if you look at it as a fanservice to the original writers/creators. And while I wasn't enjoying every one of those arcs, I was more upset about the 'fan service' to the (changing?) audience of this story, where the main plot line was increasingly interrupted and populated by ever more irrelevant female characters, which made me question the target group of this novel.

Novel is good if you are here second guessing whether to read or not. The story reveals itself slowly throughout as things come together and leave you guessing. The author most definitely did their research before each arc as everything was nice to read about and did not seem made up like a lot of stories. Some arcs did get a little slow but you could skim through them and you'll be fine. Translation does drop a little toward 65~70% of the novel, I think it's a different translator but it's still readable and not the end of the world. All and all its a good novel and it will not waste your time.

If you like a good novel, read this. The story is good, you will get to enjoy so many stories in one story and best part is every single one of them has its own charm. IMO, best part of this novel is it's MC. There are a lot of loopholes that will annoy you but the MC is great. Tbh, one of the best. He doesn't love on morals, neither he is a villain, whatever he does is has a reason behind it. Side characters are fine but not great so that's one downside but the ranking of this novel certainly is underwhelming because it is much better than most of the novels in the top 100 smh
